Using Essential Oils as a Safe Alternative to Traditional Insomnia Treatment

Nearly as important as needing a safe and healthy way to relax is the need to have a safe and healthy way to sleep. Many people suffer from insomnia, and many don’t want to take medications to alleviate the symptoms due to the risks associated with them. The same key essential oils used for relaxation also aid in treating insomnia in a homeopathic way.

The best essential oils to aid in sleeping are Lavender and Chamomile. These can be used in many different ways. Some of the most popular modalities used to treat insomnia include rubbing a few drops of Lavender on your pillow case, or on an eye mask, prior to sleep. This way the aromatherapy can work its magic with very little effort from you.

Other methods include using unscented candles with a few drops of Lavender or Chamomile near the wick and allow the candle to burn for a few minutes before bed, or you can add some drops of Lavender or Chamomile essential oils to a warm bath before bed. This method is commonly used for children but is equally effective for adults. Another alternative to bathing or burning a candle could be gently rubbing a small amount of diluted oils directly on your temples or wrists before bed, you can truly make this a pampering experience by adding the oils to unscented body wash and unscented lotion.
